A calligrapher is sent to an island after causing a commotion. There he meets a young girl who would inspire him to a world he has never seen before.

Handa, seeking to work on his calligraphy, is being "bothered" by the carefree residents of the island. This time, to the point he's hospitalized.

Handa's sends in his calligraphy work, only to find he was awarded a "disappointing" second place... Handa's daily life continues.

Handa is caught by Miwa's father to work on writing the name of his ship, where he gains a new perspective on approach towards calligraphy.

With the next exhibition closing in, Handa is asked to take the kids swimming, where he finds out that there's more to life than just calligraphy.

Guests have arrived, and one of them, Kanzaki, cast Handa into confusion. Handa responds back as one who has lived with the people on the island.

Handa's guests spend their last day on the island going fishing. Handa learns that he can inspire others just as he has been inspired.

Handa experiences summer on the island, and sees a different side of Naru when he joins her in paying a visit to her family grave.

With the Narukain exhibit closing in, Handa is starting to feel the pressure again. He gains the inspiration to write his work, but…

After completing his submission, Handa turns his attention to the island and its residents; Naru gets a surprise when she goes to pay Handa a visit.

Handa is back in Tokyo for an important meeting. When he really starts feeling the pressure, he finds comfort in an unexpected phone call.

With a few more loose ends to tend to, Handa is ready to go back to the island. Smiling faces and open arms await Handa's return.
